Recently I have been experimenting with night photography its a start of a new journey but I'm not sure exactly where I'm going with this other than enjoying the solitude of night, the therapeutic qualities of sitting and thinking. So at this juncture this is simply a technical exercise.
I like that: "enjoying the solitude of night, the therapeutic qualities of sitting and thinking." Well said.
Something thing to try: In the past I have figured out the correct exposure for whatever light source will be in the photo, then wait around dusk for the ambient light to be at a level where I can place the tones I want in the scene to match that exposure. That way you don't get so much of a problem with flare and burned out highlights surrounding the light source.
Though I admit, I'm reluctant when it comes to waiting around in cold weather...
Svenedin, thanks for link the Ilford info looks interesting, so some more experimenting is in order.
Pentaxuser I stumbled across a book on night photography by Andrew Sanderson its a fantastic read and full of useful practical tips. In the book he suggested the use of dilute developer/static processing to reduce negative contrast. First impressions are that it works really well. I have other negs shot around the same time and developed the same so will post as well.
