Anyway nice shot and I think you are pretty close to getting what you were after. I can only guess that the original has more detail on the shadow side than what appears here. I would hope so anyway.
1. Scan in at 400dpi at 10in x 10in
2. Save this file - my digital 'negative' to be archived
3. Make copy of this file - this my work in progress file
4. Adjust levels a bit
5. Add my name on another layer
6. Save this file for print
6. Convert to sRGB (my working space is Adobe RGB)
8. File -> Save For Web -> 60% quality, 400 x 400 pixels, saved as JPEG
In total I will have 3 files - one for archive, one for print and one for web.
I like the idea, and I think there is a lot going for it... Pose, expression, quality of light...
The things I find distracting are her arms... Left arm/floating hand and her missing right arm... Keep an eye on the catchlights in her eyes as well. The shiny hardware does take one's attention away from her eyes/attitude.
