Thank you all very kindly for your comments.

The defacing of the rock face is a damned shame. Unfortunately, there are markings all over and I had to resign to shooting anyway. Without the markings, you lose all sense of scale. What struck me was the impression of water on the rock, both literally and figuratively. I imagined the rock face transformed into a raging torrent with swirls and swells breaking through the edges of the frame.
