Returning to Kadena at sunset

In the far distance is the island of Okinawa. We were returning from an 8 hour mission and are on final approach as a unit of about 12 planes.

The Tea House of the August Moon would be out the right side of the canopy and visible on approach.

The other planes are above and behind us stacked up in landing order. We went in last.

Some of the red is due to it being so late in the day, but some is undoubtedly deterioration of the slide. I have left it as-is. The apparent imperfections in the image are reflections in the dirty canopy due to the sun being behind me.

Heh! What's a man old enough to be flying in 1961 doing climbing statues to get pictures? I take it that you have checked that none of your insurance company investigators are members of APUG.

Atmospheric shot made better by its age and historical significance. Yes unfortunately 1961 is now history.
