Relay Mailbox

An old relic not used anymore here, but kept in front of the Alaska Gold Mint Building as a remnant of days gone past. These were called relay boxes or drop boxes, and were used by postal carriers to temporarily store mail en route. Usually, a city carrier will deposit mail into a relay box, and it will later be picked up for local delivery by the local carrier.
