This is from the same neg as a previous photo of mine, but is a proposed crop of it for 10X8 printing.
I would like to know if people like this as a crop before comitting it to paper. For instance, does it matter that the top of the ear is cut off or would it be preferable to include some of the highlight?
Its a very nice crop and I would crop it even tighter from the top and bottom ommitting completely the ear and some of the out of focus blouse. The picture is about the tender gaze of the girl towards the sleeping boy (girl?) and a tight crop controls the focus better.
I am not psychotic with "chopped" body parts like most people, I have no trouble it. I think people who get disturbed by body parts touching the edges or being partially obstracted should seek councelling.
Jonathan, I wouldn't let the aspect ratio govern my crop. Nice if it fits a std frame/matt but non std matt (in a bigger frame) worth the effort if the picture warrants it. So.. I'd crop then worry about how to matt/frame.
Having looked at your alternatives, I think I like the real tight one (no ear) but I also think you should experiment with leaving some of the dark section (jumper) at the bottom. I feel leaving that in anchors the image and stops the eye looking down and out that side.
