Raw scan

Raw scan

So, the previous one was converted to monochrome? The color in this must be then a result of the stain, then reversed on the color scale in the neg to pos conversion.

Thanks for posting this, HiHo. I look at both this and the other and the brightness of the reflected off the bonnet between the beads of water is great in the monochrome posted earlier.

I don't know what to say about this as more dramatic - your truly fine composition and image, or the owner's outstanding waxing prowess!

You find such great stuff everywhere you go, HiHo! >michael

Hi Michael. Its a mono negative scanned as if it were a color neg. All my stuff goes through that transition. 'From a post on scanning.
I don't have calibration devices & the software versions seem to indicate I've run out of adjustment (11 y.o. monitors). A proper (calibrated) view might well look quite different. I appreciate every eye & each comment.

Well, i am thinking that the stain is doing just what it is meant to do, when printing - creating more differentiation between the tones and nudging on the edge effect in the transitions between tones.
The BW image is quite dramatic. Posting where it came from is quite illuminating, so-to-speak.

Took the liberty of playing with the raw scan a bit. How does this look to you?

This one doesn't looks so hard and contrasty (for my old eyes a little more pleasing) - I often scann my b/w - negatives in color mode but I've never seen such a dramatic effect like on the previous shot.
Just wondering ...

Eric, no adjustment to the scan at all - unless it has settings I'm unaware of.

That you can see an unpleasing contrast also, Fred, makes me think I'm not as used to seeing/recognizing it in mono. I see hyper saturation & contrast in color on Flickr & call it 'digital overbake'. I'm less sensitized to it in mono - but that doesn't mean its not overdone.

Again, Gents. I appreciate your kind help.

The mono image is just to my liking - it seems to go that there is highlights in the reflection of light off the hood, and that chrome demands to be heard - i think the image was just as it was meant to be and natural to the subject. Chrome, good golly miss molly needs to hurt the eyes! The more chrome the more intimidation on the streets!
