House of circa 1600 with fine roof details including the distinctive row of twelve chimneys arranged along the ridge and sitting on a spine wall within the building. Known locally as the twelve apostles. Now sits within a mid C20th housing estate!
Thanks for the kind words. The light was pretty flat on day I took this shot - I needed to print this on grade 4.5 to get some sort of texture in the print and I did toy with putting a border around it.
Richard - I'd like to keep them coming when I get the chance to take them. I have notes of various buildings in Yorkshire and Cumbria - it's just getting out to them on days when the light is advantageous. I hope you liked the Hillary House image - one you'll no doubt remember from your time in the village?
Hi Graham - yes, I remember Hillary Hall, I believe there's a connection to Sir Edmund Hillary isn't there? I've always liked the house, it's a shame it's not better cared for. I like the way you're photographing these buildings absolutely square on, really brings out the character and quirkiness!
