An outdoor, public, free gymnasium. When I was in Mexico City seven months prior, this was basically an empty lot. Mexico City has put in multiple public outdoor free gym spaces like this, and as you can see it's quite popular.
@HiHoSilver Mexico City, for all its myriad faults, is very progressive and forward-thinking. They have a huge public transit network that is (for us Yankees) mind-blowingly cheap (from downtown to the end of the line, or for that matter, from one end of the line to the other end of another line - 25 cents) and very comprehensive (pretty amazing when you consider Mexico City is the largest city in the hemisphere at 20+ million people). They have these public open-air gyms around the city, they're starting a project to transform the infrastructure under elevated roadways into green spaces to help with noise and air pollution, and on weekends the light rail trains that connect to the ends of the subway lines are free all day. The single most expensive museum entrance fee I encountered was roughly $8. Most are under $5. They have express buses that run in dedicated lanes and have limited stops. The express bus costs the same as a subway ride. In Mexico City you see signs at many institutions that indicate they do not discriminate on the basis of age, religion, race, cultural origin, gender, sexual orientation, economic status or any other reason. It's pretty impressive that way. I have really enjoyed my visits there and will definitely be going back again. Just don't drink the tap water and you'll be fine! And don't ride public transit if you're claustrophic. You're sharing with 20 million ppl.
