Essentially everything has been done before by someone. So that's not a very effective critique. I too find it lacking in impact. This is I feel due to a lack of a dynamic element and the distracting rod in the background. You may feel "pride" in just viewing your flag, but this emotion was not conveyed to those of us who are not Americans.

This is actually a hard thing to do, convey pride, without showing a human face or some type of body language. Keep trying.

A family of lions might work. But, I agree that human elements need to be included to get the message of pride across, because pride is a human emotion. Objects (even nifty ones like our repsective national flags) are usually just objects. (Some objects, however, are almost universally interpreted as negatives.)

FWIW, the pole in the background bothers me, too.

How i got this shot was, I was walking downtown and saw the flag (and a really blue sky). I was kinda just experimenting and looked up through my lense. I took the picture because I saw the pole in the background, i thought it gave it good contrast in color. I see how you all can view it as distracting, and I understand the whole pride issure. I did not name this picture "pride" to show pride, but more to represent my pride. It could just as easily be named "flage5".

Also, I see how this type of picture could be over done...

thanks for the comments everyone
