the final print - almost, almost THE print...the lighthouse is a survivor of many hurricanes - including the historic, horrific storm of 1900 that sent 15 foot waves completely accross the island taking over 6,000 lives.
yuppers, the basic tech info is in the "Information" box to be right of the thumbnail......the print required a relatively short initial exposure - doing some dodging along the bottom of the image - the grassland and a teeny (how's that for technical?) bit of dodging on the building adjacent to the lighthouse.after that changing to a higher grade contrast filter & opening the lens one stop and doing lots of careful burning-in of the center and corners...then careful immersion (this was a 20x24 sheet of paper) into the fresh desktol and consistent rocking of the tray for even development...then with nitrile gloves on moving the print from dev to stop to fix to water holding tray...to perm-wash to print washer (twice) before final wash...then using equal care to hang the print to dry...and sometimes into a selenium toning tray if i have it on hand.
thank you all for your kind, generous and encouraging remarks. making the image was a planned outing that day......while i was setting up i remember feeling the sort of excitement in the air you feel just before a storm...all it took was pure dumb luck, occasionally a good eye, a wee bit of discipline and a few decades of practice, practice, practice klutzing around in the darkroom.
