"Pork Chops" at the Famous Door

Bromoil Print. It was a rainy afternoon, some thirty years ago, when French Quarter street dancer, "Pork Chops," and I were walking down Bourbon Street. When we arrived at the Famous Door, "Pork Chops" started singing and dancing in the rain, a la Gene Kelley. I shot a 35 mm color slide that remained in my attic for decades. I recently broke it out, made a copy negative which I converted into this bromoil print. In those days I was friends with many French Quarter street people. I often wonder what happened to them. I'm afraid I know!

Wow. That really is some excellent work. Love the composition, and the nice muted tones. Your bromoil prints always have this timeless feel to them. The story is good too. It enhances the print. Thanks for sharing, I enjoy this one quite a bit.

This is a wonderful photograph on its own, but your story adds another dimension that greatly enhances my appreciation of it. Sounds like "Pork Chops" added refreshing color to the cast of characters on the stage of life.

All the best,
Daniel

Pork Chops and Pops, both street dancers extraordinaire, were also characters of the first order and two of the most photographed people in the "Big Easy." I'll never forget sitting on the curb with Pops, as he fed the pigeons, a daily pleasure for him, and he said, "Gene, thousands of people have photographed me. You're the only one who ever returned and gave me a picture and I appreciate that." I had presented Pops with an 11 x 14 inch matted bromoil portrait. The world needs more characters like the street people of New Orleans!
