I don't know how I did that - there's no double exposure feature on the old F1 that I'm aware of.

The old 'generic' trick to doing double exposures is to tighten the film using the rewind crank, push in the rewind button, and advance the lever to cock the shutter, which also resets the rewind button. I can't see that being done by accident, even if it works on an F1.

I admit I did not notice the effect at first, and even now it feels more like a reflection than a double exposure. Always nice when Serendipity takes a hand, and not Murphy!

I'm not sure if this is the same model, but the linked manual does say the multi-exposures are possible with the method Graphamp describes. It seems they may have moved the rewind button from the bottom to the top of the body in later models. https://www.cameramanuals.org/canon_pdf/canon_f-1-original.pdf

Who knows- I may have inadvertently pushed the rewind button before advancing the film for this shot. Regardless, I still have no idea how it happened, but I'll take happy accidents
