Thanks! I think I have erred with wide aperture: the dog's nose is out of focus a bit.

Nah, that's the way one shoots a canine. The nose isn't the primary focus point. If you stop down more you get more background in focus. That's ok if the background is distant, but if it's too close it can be a bigger distraction than the slightly soft nose. This is, as it is, a lovely portrait.
