I just posted a new BLOG entry if you're looking for more info than given below.

I have two long term projects going on right now and I've been looking for something I can finish in the short term.

Here is a link to the image that gave me the idea...

As a sort of companion to my Cambell's Farm or Thereabouts series I will be shooting about 200 sheets of 4x5 film centering around the various Pond Scum on the 6 ponds around the property this summer.

I think this is by far one of the best of the series so far. Visually, it really holds my interest for a long time. Very well done.

Just saw this print in person this morning. I know this series is perhaps less accessible for people than some of Shawn's other photographs, but I think it's some of his best work. This print in particular is beautiful in person.

Shawn, this series of prints works particularly well when seen together. The tonal palette and designs seem to complement each other. Very nice work.

All the best,
Daniel

Thanks fellows! Much appreciated. This is one of my favorites so far, though I'm quite fond of the way many of them work together, as Daniel mentioned. I'm starting to realize how hard it's going to be to edit these down into a portfolio when I've burned through all my film... Well, as Scott Killian sometimes says, I guess "that's a high class problem to have."

I'm working on the dedicated web page on my site and should have it at least partly published tonight.

Shawn,
I think this series is very scummy. But I agree with Ryan. this is one of you best series and i love the form and tones on these prints. Looking at the scum you start to take it out of context and use it as a abstract.

"I think this series is very scummy." Excellent! Seriously though, I appreciate it, Mike. I'm really enjoying the project, having something to work on in the short term is a great inspiration.

I finished building the first of the Pond Scum pages on my website. You can view it by clicking the link below. www.shawndougherty.com/pondscum.html
