Pond, Bamboo Forest

My favourite bamboo forest near Setaka, Japan. HP5 4x5. Xtol 1+1. It was a nice, foggy winter morning, until the wind picked up...

Andrew, you do something I don't see much - which is the soft, reflective mood with hard focus. Hard focus is a bias of mine - espec. in portraiture. I have a harder time describing the wonderful effect of the very busy tones in the forest. I like where I live, describing it as having a 1,000 shades of green. You've made alot of beauty with the shades of gray without resorting to tricks of focus. Its gorgeous.

I like this one a lot Andrew. The soft light, the incredible detailed busyness of the trees and leaves, the soft tones...it all works! I need to find some quiet places like this here (or near) Kyoto.

Totally agree about the subtlety and the almost cathedral feeling of the top.

Thank you kindly, everyone! The bit of fog really did something special to the light. I caught the tail end of the fog, as the wind picked up. Calm and foggy one minute then, whoosh! The sounds made in a bamboo forest when it's windy are pretty special...

Don't you mean creepy? The way bamboo creaks and moans in the wind almost always creeps me out (sometimes in a good way) - especially in low light or if I'm alone.

Yes, it is pretty creepy. I don't think I could handle a night in there...The groaning and moaning is like they're talking to each other... I like all the different knocking sounds. An interesting fact about bamboo is its ability to grow from a metre tall to several metres in just a week. I found this beautiful little bamboo shoot of about a metre in height. I came back exactly a week later, and I could not find it. Eventually I did. The darn thing towered over me!

Maybe I've seen "Predator" too many times but that area looks like a good place for him. Well done. I wouldn't want to be there at night either!
