I go through phases when I get tired of one genre of photography and pretty much ignore looking at it. Thats the way it has been for awhile with landscape images. But this one has swung me back.

I find the way the image shares an abstract quality with landscape refreshing. I don't know if the print shows any more details in the shadows than my monitor, but anymore is not needed. The layering of sky/clouds over trees and ground then reflected provides plenty of interest when contrasted with the shadows. All the "layers" are pretty well proportioned to provide a good balance. Finally, I suppose the main reason I like it is simple. It has a great mood about it.

What I want to know is - where's the scum?
Beautiful print, Shawn! I too have started exploring split grade printing, and there is a lot to learn. Although it hardly seems you need any more lessons. Can I ask what filtration you used?

Wow, thanks everyone! This is the view from our back porch. I LOVE being out here around sunset so it is very personal, I'm glad to hear it's seems expressive. It certainly feels that way to me.

Jim, that's one hell of a compliment and has made my day. Thank you. There is little detail in the blacks, just some separation between the shores and pond.

Thom, the exposure was made early this spring before the scum started to take over. This was printed with a 4 second exposure of Yellow at 150, then 3 seconds of Magenta at 170. I dodged the bottom right corner (which doesn't seem to show up in the scan) during the yellow and selectively burned just a couple highlights with Yellow at 150.

That's beautiful Shawn; it's positively glowing.
