Photo taken of a Pinnacle in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone at about 2:30 PM. It was a cloudy day and openings in the clouds allowed shafts of light to shine down on the Pinnacle. You can see the far side of the Canyon Wall in the Distance. This is why the park is called Yellowstone. Photo taken 3 months after I broke both wrists in a bicycle accident and was hit by a car. Photo hand held, no tripod available. Leica Zoom lens near 200mm adjustment.
Thanks for the very kind words. I had been in a bicycle and car accident only 3 months earlier and couldn't make my trip to Yellowstone and visit my friend in the spring. So I went at the end of September instead. I had been badly injured in the accident and had broken both wrists and wasn't anywhere near 100%. I had hiked down to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone from the car without a tripod and sat down. It was an unusual afternoon as the sunlight shown through breaks in the clouds and shafts of light illuminated the Pinnacle with this beautiful light. I proped my elbow on my knee to support the camera and lens and took a series of photos as I zoomed in with the 70-210mm zoom. Lighting was to say the least unusual for this time of day. The image is amazingly sharp and has been displayed in the past to 16" x 24". Rich
Wow!!! Wonderful use of color, and you are right it is quite sharp - especially for being handheld. I particulary like the way this promontory is highlighted by the sunlight, with the shadow behind it. Thanks for sharing the image, and the story behind it.
Thanks very much for the very kind words. Imagine that 3 Roberts in a row. This was certainly a case of being in the right place at the right time. Whether not up to par or not. The image has not been displayed in several years. But, I will probably bring it back for the Art shows very shortly printed as a 20" x 30" image. It should be sharp enough, but may be slightly softer than the 16" x 24" copies. Rich
