Pinhole Attempt #3 And #4

My ongoing saga of getting acclimated to pinhole photography, using hand crafted 4x5 I bought on eBay and some old film I know very little about (but got for free). Here I think I'm getting better results but still not happy with the details on the negative. I'm starting to think other things than I was at the beginning of this endeavor. Here in this example, left side is 3 seconds exposure and right side is 6 seconds exposure. Top is the default auto-setting on the very cheep "all in one" HP scanner, bottom is reducing the brightness by 100%. I'm thinking the 3 second shot has better highlights and better shadow on the foreground sideways growing tree. What do you think? I used Pinhole designer to obtain for me the reciprocity calculations with respect to using Foma T 200 hoping that it was a similar film to Bergger BFP 200. Based on advice from others I increased that time to 6 seconds for the 4th shot.

hi 1sharpmonkey

i like the 6second exposure better too, but ...
the thing to do is, instead of scanning your film
make a contact print! you may find that all your
testing and retesting &C &C help you only to a point
( that is inverted negatives ) instead of just making a contact print
and scanning that.

have fun!

Thanks John, I'll be making contact prints sometime soon and then we'll see if things are better. I think what confuzzles me the most is this Bergger film is not transparent anywhere. It's worse on the 120 roll film. Same emulsion.. it is very cloudy in the areas that would appear clear for other films I've worked with. I haven't enlarged or contact printed any of it. So, we will see soon as I can get the appropriate darkroom time.

I will say this much, I am really enjoying the pinhole experience.

I took two more yesterday at lunch (closeups of flowering Oleander bush), this time with Kodak TXP 320 so I can compare against the Bergger, but don't know when I can get to develop them. It seems that the things I gravitate to photographically speaking naturally move in the wind and it's been difficult to find the right moment to expose the film. I think the next shots will be of things that don't move in the wind so I can see how sharp this can really go with this camera.
