This is a reasonably straight scan of a 4x5 negative. I'm really unsure about this... and haven't bothered to print it yet. Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.
I think it is a little unclear about what it is - a bit chaotic with elements of the image interfering with one another. Not unpleasant to look at but for me it does not progress beyond that. Hope this is constructive!
I have to agree with Tom on this. I feel that if you tilted the camera up more to exclude the foreground and make a totally abstract image with the silhouetted branches it may be a more pleasing image.
Cheers, Tony
Hey Doc, I think this is a pretty good picture and worth printing if it isn't going to be a pain in the ass. The only real problems I see are trying to keep the highlights in the shy down, while still keeping some glow in the tree trunks.
If you do end up printing it, you might, when you go to to mount it, to try and acidentally trim off a little too much on the left side-- giving it just a little asymetrical tension.
I think the space is fine up and down-- but its great along the top edge.
I brought my camera out intending to shoot straight up into the canopy above. However, I didn't have enough tilt to do it so I ended up panning around and tried to organize this little bit of chaos... Thanks for the thoughts, they are greatly appreciated.
I think I will give this a chance in the darkroom. Hopefully the correct paper grade and a water bath will make it possible to achieve the tones I'm looking for. I tend to agree with Richard about the slight crop, I mean trimming error. I'll post the finished version if it makes the cut. Thanks again. doc
