Great skin tone and texture and animation in the drummers in what I'd imagine to be difficult high contrast lighting

It was rather high contrast lighting indeed. I recall taking an averaging reading and exposing for that reading. My development was normal. In fact, I didn't depart from Kodak's recommendation for time and temperature. I used XTOL 1:1 which I've heard will preserve or slightly increase a films rated speed. That would account for the increased shadow detail under the man's hat
