Piano inside

I wish my neg scan were this sharp. Oh well the limitation of 35mm.

I like the dramatic lighting, but have mixed feelings about all those lines leading out of the frame.

Ain't LF grand, though? (oh my gosh, a piano pun!)

I really like this image, it really struck a cord with me, and would love to see the real image. The low key lighting is very dramatic.

smudge, you said "I wish my neg scan were this sharp. Oh well the limitation of 35mm." May I suggest your 35mm scanner is the limitation, not 35mm film. Apart from the movements MattCarey used, this nice piano image can be made with a 35mm camera and a good lens, including the sharpness. Use slow film for that and choose your developer with care.

A very interesting image, I like it! First glance gives the impression of looking up at skyscrapers at night, then it really grabbed me when I looked closely. A very good image.

I think I picked a rather tough first LF assignment. Trying to keep the two main rails as parallel as I could and getting as much in focus. The piano harp was about 1' at the closest, and 5' at the farthest from the camera, but I was constrained by the lid. The lighting looks better than I had expected. I figured if I tried a flash it wouldn't work.

What I don't like is
1) the forground is rather soft
2) the vertical rails seem to slant to the left.
3) I really couldn't do much framing as the camera size and the piano lid basically defined the image.

As to the scan, it was just an Epson 3170. If you see the full file, it isn't really that good--especially before unsharp mask. I have seen good results from MF and 35mm on it, so I don't think that the LF is any magic bullet.
