As I shovel mud from where the bookcase stood, I would throw books that were recognizable aside to photograph. These are all that were still in one piece.
I think this image may get quite a few comments, because most of us have those books on our shelves and it could easily have been our houses, communities, or lives that were torn to shreds.

Sam, I'm with Murray here, It's a blessing that you still have your cameras so we get a chance to live through this with you.
Hope that you one day can replace those books that inspired you and made you what we see today.
A great collection of books ( or were) damned shame. I agree with Carl in that you have such an amazing body of work from this disaster that there could be a book in it,

Sad yet beautiful. I'm glad you photographed the books before they were hauled away. They served one last noble purpose. I just love your series of post Katrina images. They show us just how fragile our surroundings are!
