i love the shadows and how the whole thing might
be repeated by the branch in the top left.

you have a great eye, and the tonality + details are wonderful .

A really interesting and pretty print. I think my attention to the overall beauty and geometry makes any distraction of elements as the root or top-left branch pretty minimal. On my monitor though, my eye has some trouble with the brightness of the top edge area.
 
Thanks Scott, John and Victor. The patterns behind the tree are cracks in the ice, but they look so much like branches and thus natural extensions of the tree. Victor, I have yet to find a satisfactory way to retain delicate highlights, or subtle shadow detail for that matter, in the print scan. I'll try to keep learning more about this digital stuff
