Miles, in regards to rives BFK (and this is per Clay Harmon's advice and some stumbling on my own) I steam the paper a bit before coating to get the humidity up.
I also add about 25% of the total coating volume in distilled water. For example if your coating solution was 10 drops of Ferric Ox and 10 drops of Palladium (total of 20 drops) I would add an additional 5 drops of distilled water to that amount. Helps with the absorbancy of Rives BFK.
After coating, I let it sit for a few mins and then hit it with a hair dryer on the back of the paper. to help speed the drying so it doesnt absorb into the paper too much.
Then I resteam it some to rehumidify it and then print and process normally.
