This was one of those 'I'll just be five minutes', that the family soon realises will be closer to three hours; unless they absoloutely insist otherwise!

One rock in a quite incredible formation, and one of the last shots that day. I was just packing up to leave when I saw the bird perched in the cool breeze; two frames later and I was quite sure I'd bagged my shot of the day.

Printed on Ilford MGFB, developed in Ilford WT and bathed in a thio/selenium split. I'm still trying to get the hang of this paper, and do have a real preference for the WT version; but the huge price difference is causing me to experiment - time will tell. I did some selective bleaching on the water; and the scan seems to be showing up some flaws in my proccess! :-(

I like how the curved line of the shore and rock lead you to the bird and top of the rock as a strong focal point. Nice mood also.

Yes, I know what you mean with Ilford MGFB paper, it's vastly different from WT. WT is the superior paper in terms of maximum black (probably due to a higher silver content, hence also the price) and toning respons. Only the WT variant gives true deep blacks, like I was also used having with AGFA MCC 111, and can give deep brown and purple colors with sepia and selenium. Standard MGFB only tones very lightly, even if you bleach to completion.

Perhaps I should have printed at a higher contrast, but getting real depth to the blacks was difficult; even with extended Selenium toning afterwards.
I think that by and large I will stick to WT, but its nice to have a few papers in the arsenal. I try printing a WT variant for comparison when I get the chance.
