'Peedie Lass', Cromarty, Scotland

I loved the way this derelict boat showed it's Viking ancestry - just needs a dragon head!

Hi Rob...I like it too...mostly I like the composition..

The prow shines! Great shot of the boat. Not so sure about background which is distracting. Try transporting boat to a windswept beach with dunes or anywhere that avoids the 21st century!

Seriously I dont' know what you could have done and still have gotten the right angle for the boat. There's always differential focus for a fuzzy background but I am not sure that would have worked either.

People will erect these unsuitable buildings and spoil a composition.

Thanks! I take your point about the background although I would have lost the shape of the prow if I'd moved to the left to put it behind the boat. The building is part of an oil rig repair yard and is huge - it gets in almost any view from Cromarty!

Wonderful framing and use of space! Agree with Pentax that perhaps more selective focus range might have been beneficial. But wonderful all the same.

This boat is terrific and I reckon that it is worth revisiting when there is some fog or weather to give it more atmosphere. The sky is just a bit too plain and the background is unfortunate, but as you say there isn't a lot you can do about it.
