Parking Lot - Little Things

6x6cm silver chloride contact print

While I'm just starting to make my final set of prints from Project Pond Scum on M&P's new paper I'm also beginning a new one. I was fortunate enough to buy 1500 little sheets of vintage Azo at a great price. I've fallen in love with having my new to me 6x6 on me most of the time and being ready to capture those little visual miracles we encounter so often if we're open to them. This particular photograph was exposed in the parking lot where I work... Unfortunately the tree shedding all the leaves was cut down a few days ago so this was the last such display I'll find when I park my car for the day.

This image is a prime example of what I have in mind. I'm using the paper to create a portfolio called "Little Things", a reference to both the size of the prints as well as the subject matter. I'll be sure to post my ongoing results here as I did with my last series. Hope you enjoy viewing them, I sure enjoy making them.

Too cool, Shawn! It's also nice to see photography where a clear break from printing large is taken. Personally I'm a little tired of huge murals. I like small prints where you have to examine them closely. Like this.

Thank you fellows. I love the way these little prints draw you in and engross you with detail and tone. They have a precious, jewel like quality about them and the best seem to almost glow... As close as it comes to the experience of viewing them live on the ground glass.

I love the way you are able to see things that so often get taken for granted. This is very nice.

Very cool, Shawn. Looks like you're grooving with that "small" camera. This must be a jewel of a print- perfect for this image.

All the best,
Daniel

Thank you Dorothy and Daniel, for the nice thoughts.

I just added a second lens and back to my "small" camera Daniel and after carrying it around awhile I'm beginning to rethink the term.

Very nice Shawn. Must be even more beautiful in person.

Yes, those little guys can get heavy

Thank you, Vic. There's no comparing the scans to these little prints for sure...

and adding the meter, filters, lenses and backs doesn't help the weight. Of course I try and keep it in perspective. All that and the camera would fit inside my 8x10...
