Paradise Springs

Best kept secret in Southern Wisconsin. This was a scene of complete flatness. Wanted to test some BTZS approaches and was surprised how, with those techniques, was able to get some snap to the resulting image. This is a wonderful fishin' hole and filled with Rainbows, Brookies, and Browns.

Wow, what a special image. I guess your secret is out now. What is the structure?

cribs made by the DNR for reproduction of the speices. This spring house is from the turn of the century and water was bottled there for many, many years under the name of Minnehaha. Operations closed in 1967 and eventually the state bought the land and currently maintains it. What impresses me most is how they have made it completley handicap accessible for all to enjoy(including a fishing platform).

Someplace in Kettle Moraine St. forest? I'm new to the area, so I would love to find out where good spots are around here to go shoot.

Thanks,

Will

Will,
I would head right up to Parfreys Glen if I were you. It is the second best kept secret in WI. It's right near Devils Lake State Park on County Trunk DL just a tad WEST of Devils Head Ski Resort. That place is totally unreal. I was up there last Friday and just started to print some palladium prints from there. You're probobly not more than an hours drive from there. The hike in is about 1/2 mile and well worth it.

I hate to inform you of this, Mike, but I believe you violated APUG rules with this one.

Doesn't it say somewhere that images of good fishing holes have to include GPS coordinates?

Nice balance in the composition, and the contrast level is perfect for the scene, I think. It carries the quiet mood of the place nicely.

Maybe Phil Davis can come up with something like that on the Palm and we could benifit from that!

That's beautiful, Mike! I love the serenity & you're right, it definitely 'pops'!

I went to Parfrey's Glen this last summer with the family. Unfortunately, the mosquitos ate us up, my three year old gave up 1/8th of the way back, and my negs came out too contrasty. Not sure which is worse. Now would be a great time to go with the snow though. I had lots of trouble getting the camera still on that walkway because it bounced up and down so much when anyone walked by.

I have a Handspring that runs PalmOS that takes a GPS module that does exactly what you are talking about. But any old GPS will do really.

Thanks for the info. I don't fish, so your secret is safe with me if you want to pm it
