The same negative. The first is a scan of the contact, the other an 8x10 enlargement. This image replaces the scanned enlargement automatically "fixed" by the scanne. I figured out how to turn off the automatic correction, which I should have done in the first place. The filter (a #2 1/2) and the paper (Arista Edu Ultra) are the same as used for the contact print.
This is the enlargement, and the scan shown here looks a lot better than the print, although I didn't make any adjustments to the image in Elements or anywhere else, except a very small amount of sharpening.
Thanks 2F/2F, me too. It's too bad the scanner "fixed" this one, because it's much muddier than this on the print, and I'd like to know why I can't get the enlargement to look like the contact. Same paper, same filter, surely I've missed something basic here!
I have taken many trips t the Palouse to make images and contrast is always a problem that I have yet to master. Although the brightness may seem high the actual contrast levels are low unless you have some distinct shade. The contact is smaller so it all seems sharper and mre contrasty andyes the enlarger lenshas something to do with it also. I just bump up the contrast by using the next higher filter.
