I've been trying to work more on technique and handling tricky light situations. This was an exercise of trying to keep detail in the heavily shaded foreground while also keeping the background from blowing out. Any thoughts on how I'm doing or advice on handling these situations? Not interested in feedback on the scene or anything like that, more on just managing contrast levels.
Looks to me that you got what you were trying for. That was a very difficult lit shot and you succeeded in bringing out the detail in the shadows without blowing out the background. BTW I like the scene and the interest added to it with the person on the bench
Thanks Ken. I was feeling pretty good about it when I printed it, but after sitting on my desk at work the past week, it's just feeling more and more "off" to me.
Xia, the 'worst critic' trait is common, and a mixed bag. It drives you to do excellent work, but often robs you of the joy/satisfaction. I like/respect the serious approach to your work. I hope you get to enjoy the result. I say that having just been through the images in your gallery that are quite worthy of time spent.
