That is a nice print; which items were processed in caffenol? The RC negative or the final print? It's a good low contrast developer I haven't use for paper yet. I'd imagine it be a little stinky to a coffee snob when used in a tray.
Thanks, Andy... I had a fun day. JP, I have been using Caffenol as a paper developer since around 2007, so I'm pretty much used to the smell. I started experimenting with red wine in lieu of coffee a couple of weeks ago, and THAT really stinks. (but works really well as a low-contrast developer) The good thing about Caffenol as a paper developer is there is no worry about wasting a few sheets of paper, whereas using it as a film developer can be somewhat stressful. You can always re-print, but not necessarily re-shoot a scene. Thanks again. Tom
Thanks all. Ghostman, I'm not sure that the real alt-process folks would care much for Caffenol; it's simply substituting another developer in a very traditional process. But it sure is a process I am drawn to.
JP, I see that I did not answer your question... I process the initial paper negatives in Ilford HQ, and the final print in Caffenol. Sorry for missing that earlier. Cheers, Tom
I've been following your prints in the gallery and I love your technique and process. It has convinced me to keep my 5X7. BTW my Father was born in Leamington
