One of my favorite waterfalls here in Japan. Dark and difficult place to get to, but worth the hike it. No darkroom yet, so this is a straight negative scan. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
This should look good as a print, once you get a darkroom set up. It looks like something you'd find where I am, here in Tennessee. Very nice image. Dean
Thank you for your kind words. I usually try to go to at least one or two waterfalls a months, this area is loaded with them. But this is the only one that keeps be coming back several times a year. I am looking forward to getting the darkroom setup, the real print should look much better. Again thank you very much.
I'm not fond of the sky peeking through the trees at the top of the scene, and I think you could do with a bit more contrast in the rocks - when you get a darkroom, print the blacks a bit ligher with increased contrast; you could also use bleach to increase the contrast in the rock areas...and I agree with Jerold, the lower right is pretty dead.
Now, that said, I think this waterfall deserves a closer study - there are a *lot* of smaller, more intimate images to be made. I can see at least three smaller areas that I would just love to photograph...
There's lots of material there - I can see why it keeps you coming back!
Dr. Hater, Thank you for your kind words and suggestions. I tried a crop as you suggested, and I think you are correct the crop. I tried it, and it does work much better. Again Thanx!
Ken, Thank you as well for your kind words. I will take your suggestions under advisement. I have take some more closer inimate shots, at some point I will post them. Its a great waterfall, and I will be hiking back in again once the snow melts. Right now the trail is covered with 4 metres of snow. So a few more weeks, and I will be ready to go. Thank you again.
Mr. Jersey Vic. Thank you for your thoughts. I am glad you like the picture.
