wow! I've never seen a 5-string violin! And, never thought to meet a violin maker on APUG! So what is the extra string besides GDAE?

It is a "C" string on the bass side. My 5 strings are very popular with jazz, blues and celtic players. Also many teachers who teach bot violin and viola.
