I like this a lot, but I wonder if you'd be willing to tart it up a bit by spraying some oil on that metal? Is that cheating? It would enliven the dull metal, and make it glisten and glow!
The oiled, in use look would be good, but would be another image/context. It would also be a nice image. Here, I'm loving the dramatic texture, including dry dirt/rust, casting texture of the frame, cobwebs. The depth given by shadows, the extended parts beyond focus all support the main objects. Everything says industry, power, strength, force, work. I tend to be impressed by this level of detail in a shot. 'Really like it. Other views would no doubt have potential - further back, larger frame to show more machinery - but I'd be afraid to mess w/ it for fear of more being less. Its really sweet, Tony.
a lot to love about this. i'm digg'n the lack of scale, not knowing how big or small these gears are (though the cobwebs do give a partial sense of scale). did you employ any movements in this shot?
Thanks all. Jovo, sounds good, but too late, all has been demolished and gone! Oolalajp, a little bit of front tilt, it was quite dark in there, so hard to focus etc. Blansky, quite correct, I will print with more density and contrast, but I find that it doesn't work so well in a scan.
Thanks Mr. Silver....or are you the Lone Ranger? I did take one from further back, and everything just looked too cluttered. The winch stands about waist high.
