I liked the texture of this one, tried the catch the whole tree (I don't know what sort this really big one was), but the result was not that good at all ;)
Great abstract texture! You should REALLY be shooting large format (4x5 or 8x10) because 35mm does not do justice to this subject matter. If your going to be making beautiful images like this...I want to truly see ALL the texture and tones in the print, which can only be obtained when shooting large format.
Indeed, the usm doesn't help for scenes or textures with so much details taken with such a small negative. I hope there are solutions for LF ''on a budget", I am a student you know....and photography is just a hobby. Thank you for the comments.
About USM: I use 200% and a small radius < 1 pixel and treshold because this gives a much nicier (but more subtle) effect then using a radius larger dan 1 .
There certainly are solutions for LF on a budget. I have two working 9x12 cm plate cameras, 5 plate holders for one and about 16 usable holders for the other (one film sheet per holder), daylight fill developing tubes made from ABS drain pipe, a heavy duty contractor's tripod, and a nice bag to carry the stuff in, with total cash outlay spread over almost two years of about $350 including the tripod. While film choices on stock in the US are limited in this size, it's still a standard in Europe and there are many emulsion choices available via special order, including both C-41 and E-6 -- for the time being, I'm sticking with Fomapan 100 and Tri-X Professional.
