Located in Southeastern Mayes county, in Oklahoma is this Stone Arch Bridge. A single lane bridge on a county road, it is now closed and bypassed by a modern bridge.
What an unusual and interesting perspective - it's rare to see a bridge from above. There's a slightly wierd optical illusion going on for me too: when I cover the top third of the picture (so the road is hidden but the arch is visible), it loses all sense of scale and looks to me like a photograph of a particularly intricate miniature model.

It's hard to imagine retiring a well built bridge and any road here in the crowded Northeast.We have one like this near here (2 hours north of NYC) that was used as a railroad bridge but as the train stopped coming this way some time ago, it's been included in a proposal for a 40+ mile 'rail trail' to be used by bikers, hikers, strollers, etc.
I crossed a similar bridge built around 200 B.C. by the Romans that is still used as a major approach into Cordoba, Spain.
In regards the perspective. I am standing on the new bridge, which is why I am higher than the old bridge. Almost all new replacement bridges are built higher than old bridges.
All my bridge images are scans direct from the negative, with minimal adjustments, such as dodging and burning and contrast, just as one would do if printing on photo paper.
