Old General Store

I passed this old gas station on the way to my vacation at the Outer Banks, NC a few weeks ago. I just had to come back a day traffic wasn't as bad. Two days later I surprised an older couple on their way to church, and asked if they minded if I photographed their building. They said sure and informed me that it was an old general store that closed up 20 years ago. I've seen Route 158 to the Outer Banks grow quite a bit in the last 15 or so years I've been vacationing there.

Brian: Isn't this just a great place? I photographed it first several years ago, and returned this spring. This time I met the elderly lady who owns it. She said if she wasn't busy she would have let me inside. I did peer through the window and it looked like a set from The Walton's in there.

I really like the sharp shadows in your picture. It almost looks as though it was illuminated by street lights at night.

We travel the same roads. Love the tones. I've been using carbon toner but now I'm inspired to try Viradon. Love the subject mater as well as the composition. Lots of treasures along old 158.
