Here's a photo from a wet-plate negative I made last weekend at a reenactment near Natchez. The emulsion started peeling away after I pulled it out of the silver bath, so I had to frame the picture for the area that remained intact. More of the image started peeling away when I put it in the fix, so I had to do a hurry-up wash job and put it in the drying rack before I lost the whole image.
Lesson learned: clean the glass thoroughly before pouring the collodion.
Nope. I've never had to do that before. On this morning, it was quite humid and I'm sure the glass had some dampness and maybe a smudge. I was in a hurry with these guys waiting for me and I didn't swipe the glass one last time. I like the effect, but I got lucky this time and I'm sure the negative won't last long since it only had 1 wash after fixing in ammonium thiosulfate.
