Backpacking at Black Diamond Mines, this tree at a ridgeline caught my eye for the way the the afternoon light glanced across and something glowed. Al needed a break and I was anxious to see what was up there so I dropped the pack and went up to see the ridge. Setup on a tripod and activated the slow shutter speed by sticking a piece of grass in the Magicube socket.
Thanks Bruce, The tiny negative from Kodak Verichrome Pan 110 film has an interesting factory feature. There is a "mask" exposed around where the picture is expected to go.. So it comes out of the developer with a predetermined border. Printing challenge to me was that I had no pre-cut carrier for 110 and I was desperate to get the print ready for MSA. So I took a couple pieces of glass, an existing half-frame carrier and some black construction paper to try to mask down the printing area. It was a juggle as the glass had its own defects I wanted to avoid, the positioning in the enlarger was critical, and dust was tough to manage. So when I had it all in place, I was willing to accept the soft border. The soft border on the right isn't "wrong" for my composition, so I let it stand as-is.
