Numerator, Machinery Series

Wet-Plate Collodion BGA Ambrotype

As usual I used artificial light.
For the this one I used one source with six lamps at about 30 degree and second source with two lamps I places below the table, between it and backdrop

I am sure that you have done a better job than I could but ....
while the brick is nicely detailed the numerator (used to use one just like it in production planning in the 80s) is to my eyes out of focus in several places and I find myself concentrating on this rather than the composition.
cheers ; Chris

Great shot Alex. I love the old feel to these images. The DOF on the enumerator is fine by me, and I'm not sure what it would gain composition wise by having anymore anyway?? I know that in some instances, the process itself dictates shooting wide open as it's so slow.

I disagree with Chris. Out of focus elements can be just as important as in focus elements.
To me it's an image of great impact, beautiful color, interesting content, and well chosen focus.

Collodion is challenging with how slow it is, and shooting wide open has both its challenges and advantages. Very well done!

I learn something new - didn't realise how challenging this process was !
As I said it's a far better image than I could manage but I do like sharp focus and contrast so it doesn't 'do it' for me.
It's a sign of a mature forum when folks can disagree without rancour, not too many of those on the web .

Alex - thanks for sharing , should have said that early on.
