I like how they all have one foot up, and there's one guy giving you the hairy eyeball.
 
why do they make these guys wear such silly hats? It seems like a lot of military hats are just ridiculous. Nice shot though.
 
Probably some Scottland-->Canada influence on those hats.

There are stories from the early 19th century about military band uniforms. The regiments had to supply these (not the regular uniforms). So, to keep the band people from wearing them out to the taverns, they made them more and more strange...

Yep, Scottish influence. The next section of the parade consists only of soldiers in tartan kilt, sporan and little hat.
 
The hat is called a Tam o' Shanter or TOS for short worn by Scottish regiment.
