My very first print! Well, really like the 5th or 6th try on the same print.
Lessons learned:
1. Make a test print to determine exposure time!
2. DO NOT stick your nose over stop bath to see what it smells like. (umm, not pleasant)
3. Don't start your first darkroom session at 10 at night.
4. Don't let your wife catch you using her glass mixing bowl for chemicals, even if she has 4 more just like it, and you plan on taking it out of kitchen-circulation.
There's no going back, now...you don't know the POWER of the Dark Side!!!
Don't sweat the fine details yet...you'll have more than enough time for that! I think that about 5% of my first two boxes of paper actually became decent prints (not good, just decent).
The point is to have fun, learn and get comfortable with your chemicals and equipment. Pick one or two developers and stick with them for a while. My initial mistake was to bounce from one chem to the next simply because I read something interesting about it. I never got to know any of them really well. I've since decided to limit my chemical repertoire.
Thanks for the encouragement- you're right about the addiction- once I got a print that resembled something, I didn't want to stop. Could've been there all night if I didn't have to get up for work this morning. (And if paper grew on trees...)
Thanks again- glad to finally be a contributing member instead of an observer.
Looking forward to getting more practice and posting some more (and better)
