do they still sell the oils &c to create these sorts of photographs,
or do you have to me an alchemist and make your own ?

John- any oil paint will work. I use Marshall's, Pebeo, Winsor-Newton, etc. Same with pencils- Marshall's, Prismacolor, Walnut Hollow... When there were brick and mortar art supply places near me, I'd hit the "anything in this box for $1", and come up with paints and pencils often. The only other things you need are Q-Tips, cotton balls, a palette (I use delicatessen paper which I staple to mat board left over windows), eraserstik style erasers, fine sandpaper (to shape the erasers), and old clothes (it can get messy).
