Classically composed. The contrast between the soft coloring and rendition of woods, and the crystalline quality of the canal water is very effective.

If I'm not mistaken, this ends up near Beaver Creek State Park in eastern Ohio. I used to live there and there were old canal works there, I believe part of the C&O.
