Jon, I remember this from the workshop a few weeks back.

I like the plastic feel to the rocks. Reminds the geologist in me of how effective water is at reducing the landscape. There is a sense of (geological?) time here.

The light notch in the upper left bothers me, because it fights the horizontal elements, but I canot see a way to avoid it.

Hi Graham, yes that bright shape is not ideal. Perhaps I could burn the top and corners heavily like Kenna?

Jon, Try a key line around the image, or a dark mat. If you try darkening the sky behind the notch it will affect the rest of the sky adversely. The key line would let you take the sky as light as you like. A dark mat would emphasise the highlights on the rocks. Either will hold in the top around the rock, I think.

This is a very tactile picture.

I wonder, did you move in for a closeup of those amazing rocks? I guess that would have been tough considering the late light. But man, I would have loved to get at those rocks for an abstract or two. They have almost a metallic sheen to them. Nice!

Unfortunately, I had to stand back 35 ft. or so because waves were coming in. The beach is pretty flat where these rocks are so I had to stand behind a rock so my tripod wouldn't be washed away. I often like the perspective from farther away best. I guess I'll get a long lens one of these days. I'll put up some more pictures from here in a few days.
