My Old Friend

Cockpit of DC-9 I use to fly for Midwest Airlines.

I took this in 2002-2003 sometime, on my wife's old Nikon EM. It was a color negative that I tried to expose properly for a B&W print. I had to open up the aperture on the Beseler 45 all the way to have it print. The negative was pretty dense. The focus is a bit off, but it is the first color negative I have printed for B&W. I was just experimenting and wasting some paper. Brought back allot of memories. Of Ethylene Glycol dripping through the windows and into my coffee, and taxiing thru LaGuardia on a 90 degree day, and a 2 hour taxi, and sweating until you were absolutely wet..The airconditioning "packs" didn't work so great on the "9". Not like today's aircraft. Most of the taxi, we just left the front windows open. Fun to look back.

yeah but at 12,000 feet , level and cruising in calm air it must have been dreamy  ... nice photograph and special too.

It WAS dreamy at FL 350. I use to love the night flights Boston to Kansas City. 3 hrs 50 min in the winter buck'in a headwind & a clear view of the milky way with a couple of shooting stars along the way to break the monotony. Loved the East coast. Especially those Boston 23 hour layovers!

my in little aerospatial 12,000 ft at night flight along the Gulf coast, 40J to NEW was my time of bliss ( time to get away from the med-practice)... pure black to the south and the patchy green glow of the little coastal towns to the North and then NEW and ahhhhhh 2 relaxing days in New Orleans  .

I agree ! nothing like it in the World. Nothing like a smooth cruise..

Was down in "Nor'lens..before Katrina, and it was great. A great time.

Cherish what you have..It doesn't last forever.

Nope... All 400 of us on the street...We got outsourced. I would love to have a C-170, it is more fun than the DC-9. The 170 is real flying. The DC-9 was flying too, but it was like...work. I love those grass runways. Maybe someday I will build my own plane. Would love a Zenith 801. Got plans for a Pietenpol.
