Historical moment, the moment I went down the basement of my building to test my 4x5 Anniversary Speed Graphic. Ilford HP5 Plus (thanks Eddie) exp. date 1998. ISO400, 1/10 @ f/4.5.
I used the lens that came with the camera, a 4,5 Tessar Carl Zeiss Jena 13,5cm
I was looking at this thinking "It looks a lot like the basement of my grandmother's building." She lived off 181st in Ft. Washington heights. Then I read it was in NYC, ha! Love the coincidence. Good first shot. I hope many more are to follow.
Hi ricksplace, nice park up there right by the Washington Bridge, I have friends in the area. I am in 13th Street, but now that I think about it all the basements I have been here in NY look very similar, gray and white seems to be standard colors, all concrete finish with little holes on the walls, and the pipes hanging from the top. Just had an idea form my next project, give me the building address and I will go there for my next 4x5 photos!
From one beginner to another: Your first image looks a lot better than my first image!! But then, you were using a Speed Graphic. Obviously, must be better than my Crown Graphic. Keep up the good work. steve.
Yup you could see NJ from her apt. Nice area, I played in that park as a kid, on the giant rock. Later I walked with my fiance (now wife) over to the Cloister's. If you're serious the address was 116 Pinehurst Ave. She moved last year to be closer to my parents though. The grey on white, the piping, the old elevator, not straight walls, steps for no reason, all just took me back. Funny how something seemingly mundane can almost make you relive even the smells of something so long ago.
