My 1969 paisley scarf

I was 17 years old, riding my bike around on a hot, lazy Texas late afternoon, looking for things to photograph. I stopped my bike to retie my windblown hair in my scarf, when I noticed the sun shining through the scarf. I wanted to get a shot of that, so I tied the scarf to my bike handlebar and took a shot.

This shot is truly the icon of my first "artistic" photographic effort. I remember this shot so well and was thrilled to find it after 38 years. This is the day I became a photographer.

Ah 1969 when even young men wore proper overcoats in winter and paisley scarves were garments for all occasions formal and informal alike. I wore one on my motorbike and also had one for my heavy black cloth coat made by Finsterwald's of Chicago. It had originally been my grandfather's and had been made in the Al Capone era. The lining, stitching and cloth eventually began to go a little threadbare about 1980.

A coat that lasted 50 yrs. Now that was durability

Nice shot and nice scarf

wish I still had the scarf. but I'm more happy I have the shot!

the cross shaped solar back light of the scarf seems so symbolic...great story...share more...thanks...
