My mum died almost a year ago and these were some of the last shots I got of her. She was a very proud, hard woman who swore like a docker and had no concept of political correctness. We all loved her.

Both photos of your mum are fine: good lighting and appearing to be honestly unposed.
 
Thanks for the comment Jim. My mum - being very proud - would never let me photograph her without her make-up on or not having 'done' her hair, so these shots of her being relaxed and past caring what the world thinks are special to me.
 
Both are fine, this is super. 'Wonderfully executed & what a great shot to have. 'No doubt your family is awful glad you got it. 'Really a fine portrait & all the more important to have now.
